The pot plant or cannabis sativa, produces the longest and strongest fiber for the making of rope, twine and canvas. Canvas is derived from the word cannabis.
In the nineteenth century, most ships were rigged with rope made from this plant. It was an essential part of commerce, from sewing of clothes, sealing of planks and boards, to the making of the canvas that were used for covered wagons.
However, in our day, evil and designing men have misused this plant as a drug. A drug that dulls the mind, destroys the senses, stunts intellectual development and leads to the use of other more potent and destructive narcotics. Which enslaves the user and destroys their lives.
God has warned us at the beginning of this dispensation of the intent of these evil men that would promote the misuse of this plant along with other harmful substances and has warned us not to take into our bodies such substances.
"Behold, verily, thus saith the Lord unto you: In consequence of evils and designs which do and will exist in the hearts of conspiring men in the last days, I have warned you, and forewarn you, by giving unto you this word of wisdom." D&C 89:4
