The "command from the Lord with reference to Joseph Smith: 'Thou shalt give heed unto all his words and commandments which he shall give unto you as he receiveth them, walking in all holiness before me; For his word ye shall receive, as if from mine own mouth, in all patience and faith.' (D&C 21:4-5)
Every prophecy about any of the great and glorious events destined to take place in the dispensation of the fulness of times is in its nature a prophecy about Joseph Smith. If the gospel is to be restored, there must be a living prophet to receive the old yet new message. If Elijah is to come before the great and dreadful day of the Lord, there must be an appointed person to receive his message. If Israel is to be gathered, according to the ancient word, someone must be empowered to identify the chosen people, to name the places of gathering, and to specify when and under what circumstances the children of the prophets shall assemble."
